"I quote from "The Physics of Chance" by Charles Ruhla. On Page 1 Ruhla's
section 1.1 is titled "Prediction = science." I quote from that section.
"It
is often thought that science is an explanation of the world. Though this
is
an important feature, it is not the most characteristic: the overriding
priority in science is prediction."
It is quite obvious that Casti and Ruhla disagree on this. It is probably
more semantics than anything else. Call Ruhla's view "science1" and
Casti's view "science2."
If you consider only "science1," then neither evolution nor meteorology
seems to qualify as science. Which does not seem to be a useful thing to
do. They still exist and have to be called SOMETHING.
