Allen,

Dr. Behe was here at the University of Iowa last Friday and I did attend
both the seminar and lecture ("Science Stumbles on Design"). I did get a
chance to ask my question (What is the difference between your designer and
a god of the gaps? and How does this concept help us to further science
and/or theology?) but I did not get a satisfying answer. In fact, a later
question from the audience concerning how he would test his hypothesis lead
to an answer which indicated that his designer explanation would fail the
test whenever we can scientifically explain how an irreducibly complex
structure arose naturally. Seems to me that his designer is a fairly empty
concept.

As an aside to all on the list, Dr. Behe seems to think that the term "god
of the gaps" was coined by his critics. Seems to me that I have used it
much longer than his ideas have been expressed; does anyone know the history
of the term.

I am interested in hearing your opinion of his lecture.

John
