One of the members of my doctoral committee was Ed Grant, a truly great
scholar of medieval science who is from a Jewish background, though I don't
think he is particularly religious. A couple of years ago at a professional
meeting, Ed told me about his latest book, making a point of telling me that
"you'll really like this book, because it takes a favorable view of
