Allan quoted Phil Johnson from Radix concerning his relationships with
opponents.

>
> "And I have very few relationships of any lasting animosity. Most of
> them, such as they are, are from accomodationists in the Christian camp.
> With the atheists -- most of the people I argue with -- there are very
> sharp exchanges, sometimes even angry ones, but no lasting bitterness.
> Often my relationship with them turns into friendship."
>

This statement reminds me a bit of Ronald Reagan when he tried to
patch up a gaffe that offended feminists with a statement referring to
Tarzan and Jane and was stunned that they became more irate at such an
innocent story.

It seems obvious that the reason Johnson finds it easier to turn
relationships with athiests into friendships is that he treats them
with more respect than he does Christians who disagree with him
(acceptance of a common philosophical premise probably helps
also). Even here while discussing animosity in relationships he
persists in namecalling ("accommodationists").
