The problem is the question of time of arrival of different organisms. The
land snails in Hawaii evolved several genera and a few subfamilies to
families. They probably represent early arrivals that have island hopped
(since early to mid Oligocene, islands have existed in the chain, though
the current large islands are no older than latest Miocene in origin).
