I agree with Chuck that the discussion takes on a disturbing direction.
For my feeling we want to use human logic to understand God. We will never
succeed. Read Job 38. We will often have to say that we don't understand
and keep on searching. The only thing I will say now is, that many
theologians (orthodox theologians too), claim that Gen. 1 -11 is like a
parable. It is written later (by Moses) to showGod's faithfulness, God's
anger about sin, and in general the idea is that God wanted through Moses
to attack the pagan religions around Israel. Trying to fit God's work in
our patterns is impossible, is idolatry at worst, and misunderstanding at
best. Again I refer to the extensive report in the agenda for the
Christian Reformed Synod in 1991, where these matters are more extensively
discussed.
