If there were such a rule on this list, quite a number of participants
would be asked to leave. I would be outright kicked out -- I have no
formal education in most of the fields we discuss. Glenn Morton might be
asked to bow out of nongeology discussions. That's not what's intended --
or shouldn't be -- when someone with academic credentials complains that
domeone who doesn't has made an error or has misused quoted material.
Anyone ought to feel quite free to quote material to make a point. He/she
ought also to be willing to listen when a practitioner of the field in
question explains why he considers the statement erroneous or why the
quoted material is being misused.
