Good point. But let's bear in mind there is a pox on both houses. If
popularizers of science, as well as leading scientific icons, had stuck to
science and refrained from dabbling in theology, perhaps there would have
been less of a creationist reaction to the findings of science.

If ASA is to be useful in bridging a perceived tension between science and
evangelicals, we should be prepared to address the excesses of extremism in
both camps.
