William writes, in part: " The question is not whether the Bible speaks about
homosexual acts. The
question is whether or not a person believes the Bible is the Word of God."

One more time on this, William. That is NOT the question. The question (which
has interest only to those of us who DO believe the Scriptures to be the Word of
God) is: "Do these Scriptures clearly, and without any ambiguity, teach that gay
acts are a sin?"

Helmaniak, in his book, says "no." There are many who agree with him.
Schmidt, in his book, says "yes." There are many who agree with him.

Both gentlemen are Christians, deeply committed to Jesus Christ.

Anyone wanting to really understand the issue(s) needs to read both sides.
Schmidt has an excellent bibliography of books and articles on both sides;
Helmaniak has a shorter one, not as comprehensive.

The question raised by the TIME editorial you quote is adequately covered in
this literature.
