SCIENCE

NCE WITH A MISSION, INC.

Our Mission

Our purpose is to combine scientific knowledge with Christian compassion.  We are a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to producing diagnostics for developing countries. We will develop and distribute these diagnostic tools to indigenous medical professionals to enable them to accurately diagnose and treat those afflicted.

What we do

THE NEED: In developing countries, many people never see the inside of a hospital or clinic.  As a result, people often die from preventable diseases due to not being diagnosed.  Currently, the majority of tests to diagnosis diseases require expensive equipment, electricity, trained technicians, etc. all of which are often unavailable in many parts of developing countries.

THE PLAN: Science with a Mission is using a technology, called immunoassays, to test for diseases.  There are many advantages to immunoassays.

  • They do not require electricity or expensive equipment, so they can be used in remote areas.
  • They give results rapidly, allowing medical personnel to treat people in a timely fashion.
  • They are amenable to mass screenings.

THANKS

As SMI strives to develop diagnostics for use in the Developing World, I would like to thank each one of you for your role in making that happen.

  • Some have sent financial contributions. Our research would come to a grinding halt without funds to purchase chemicals and materials.
  • Dr. Luis Flores Esteves (a medical doctor from Peru) was so moved by SMIís goal to help people from his part of the world, that he wrote a letter to President George W. Bush asking for support for SMI.
  • Several have spoken to others about SMI ñ helping us with publicity and fund raising. For those in southeastern Massachusetts ñ keep an eye out in the community newspapers, the Patriot Ledger, and the Brockton Enterprise.
  • Many have committed to pray for SMI regularly. I cannot stress enough how important this is to our ministry.
  • Others have donated their own skills to help us ñ creating web pages, printing brochures, answering legal and accounting questions, etc.
  • Some have offered assistance in finding donated equipment for SMI.

NEWS

I have submitted a project proposal to Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, MA. All seniors will select a project to work on during their final year. One option will now be to work with SMI.

Our time at Congress was a joy. I met some wonderful people and came away with an invitation to be on cable TV, and invitation to speak at a church on the north shore of MA, as well as many names for potential contacts in other areas.
